Alora Macedon Wedding Venue Guide | Free the Bird Photography
I visited Alora Macedon a few months back and honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. There’s been a lot of interest around it, and sometimes venues don’t quite live up to the hype. This one does.
The atrium alone is massive – way bigger than photos make it look. That was the first thing I noticed when driving in. But the whole property got me. The accomodation, the views, the variety of spaces. It all comes together in a way that’s genuinely hard to find in one venue, and I left already excited to photograph a wedding here.
If you’re thinking about booking, here’s what I’d want you to know.

The atrium
This is the main event and it earns it. Around 600sqm of floor-to-ceiling glass, a full commercial kitchen on site, seats up to 400 and licensed for 500+. The black frame, the polished concrete floors, the way the light pours through the glass at different times of day – it’s a stunning space to be in and it photographs incredibly well. Morning light, golden hour, evening – all of it works.
It’s also more flexible than you might think. Most couples will use it as their reception space, but it works just as well for an indoor ceremony or cocktail hour. You’re not locked into one way of using it, which gives you a lot of room to make the day feel like yours.

The houses
Both have been renovated really well. Not in a show-home way – in a way that actually feels warm and nice to be in.
The top house sleeps 14. The lower cottage sleeps 9, has a balcony with views across the Ranges, and a lawn out front that’s perfect for portraits before the day even kicks off. Between the two you’ve got 23 people sleeping on the property – which means your closest people can spend the night. No convoy of cars, no waiting around. Just everyone together.
I’ll always be straight about getting-ready spaces because they make a real difference to the photos. These are genuinely great. Good light, beautiful finishes, enough room to actually move around. Your morning is going to look amazing.

The rest of the property
13 acres gives you a lot to work with. Stone courtyards, garden settings, the poolside area with Tuscan arches – on a sunny afternoon it honestly looks like Italy. The driveway entrance has this great symmetry that works really well for portraits. There are enough different spots across the property that your photos won’t all look the same, and that’s something I really love about it.
The practical stuff
1. You have the whole property from 8am through the whole night, so there’s no rushing.
2. Everything happens in one place – getting ready, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, staying over. No buses, no gaps in the day where the energy drops, no guests standing in a car park wondering what’s next.
3. Gisborne and Macedon are both close by for guests who need to stay off-site.
4. Parking on the property is generous for those driving.
5. Alora Macedone is just under an hour from Melbourne – far enough that it feels like a proper getaway, close enough that nobody makes a fuss about the drive.
The ceremony space
The ceremony space sits up on the hill looking out over the Ranges. Draping covers the ceiling, the glass opens the whole thing up, and the view does the rest. It’s a genuinely beautiful spot to get married, or have your cocktail hour to break the day up if you’ve had your ceremony outside.

Is Alora Macedon it worth it?
It’s one of the most exciting venues to open in Victoria in a long time. The scale, the design, the fact that the whole property is yours for the day and night – it’s a special place to get married and I think you’ll feel that the moment you arrive.
If you’re planning a wedding here and want to talk about photography, I’d love to hear from you. If you’re still trying to find the perfect venue, keep reading here.
