Best Wedding Venues in Geelong: A Photographer’s Guide

Looking for the best wedding venues in Geelong or the Bellarine? There are so many incredible choices, and from someone who’s photographed a lot of weddings, it gets me excited to help you find the perfect venue here in Geelong or on the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula.

I’m a photographer who recently made the sea change from Melbourne, and I’ve been on the lookout for my favourite local wedding venues here. Some early favourites are Barunah Plains, Rosemont Homestead, and Woolbrook, but I’ll get into the full list below.

Geelong and the Bellarine is so diverse with scenery and venue styles, so I’ve broken the list down into categories to hopefully make it easier for you to navigate: classic & historic, coastal & waterfront, and winery & vineyard.

Classic & Historic Venues

Cons: Less formal infrastructure, requires more vendor coordination, weather dependent

Coastal & Waterfront Venues

Torquay RACV Club

Torquay RACV Club sits right on the ocean, so you get the coastal look without having to trek far from Geelong. It’s perfect for couples who want a modern, relaxed day with the ocean as a backdrop. It’s a resort, so lots of accomodation for guests, as well as a lovely beach town to spend the weekend.

Sit-down: ~270 | Cocktail: ~400

Pros: Large ballroom for bigger weddings, resort facilities, reliable indoor option

Cons: Can feel like a hotel ballroom, styling needed to personalise, traffic at peak weekends (operating resort)

The Peak Lorne

If you’re after cliffside or hilltop ceremonies, The Peak Lorne is hard to beat. The ceremony spot is on the first hole of golf course. From the cocktail hour you overlook the whole of Lorne with the ocean as the backdrop.

Sit-down: ~150 | Cocktail: ~250

Pros: Elevated views, close to Lorne, great cocktail hour spot

Cons: Indoor space can feel like a surf club, weather-dependent ceremony location

Lorne Hotel

Lorne Hotel is smaller and more intimate, which works well for couples who want something coastal but cozy. I love the rooftop for ceremony & cocktail hour, moving inside for a sit down dinner.

Pros: Oceanfront location, accommodation on-site, rooftop

Cons: Smaller spaces, busy town during peak tourism, weather dependent (rooftop)

Things to Consider When Choosing a Geelong Wedding Venue

Seasonal Tips

  • Coastal wind: Many of the Bellarine and Surf Coast venues are right on the water or elevated sites. Strong sea breezes can affect your hair, dress, and ceremony setup. Think about securing a wind‑friendly ceremony area or adding weighted décor.
  • Winter light: Winter weddings have softer, more diffused light, which is gorgeous for photos, but days are shorter. Make sure your venue has good indoor light or a plan for late‑afternoon photos.
  • Sun direction: For outdoor ceremonies, check where the sun will be during your ceremony time. Having the sun behind you and to a slight angle as you face your guests gives the best even light.

Guest Limits and Parking/Transport

  • Always confirm the venue’s maximum licensed capacity – both for seated dinners and cocktail-style events.
  • All of the venues above have lots of parking, but it’s good to consider a shuttle to safely get your guests back into Geelong.
  • Think about accessibility for older guests or those with mobility issues. Are paths flat, is there easy access to restrooms, and can everyone get to the ceremony and reception comfortably.

Backup Weather Plan

  • Even in the sunniest months, weather can be unpredictable.
  • Check if the venue has indoor options or covered areas for ceremonies, receptions, and photo locations.
  • Marquee setups are great, but confirm who provides them and if they’re included in the package.
