Top 14 Must See Country Wedding Venues Near Melbourne

If you’re searching for the best country wedding venues near Melbourne, you’ve probably realised how many options there are. From historic homesteads to working farms and vineyard estates, it can start to blur together pretty quickly.

I’ve photographed weddings all over regional Victoria, and the difference between a venue that looks good online and one that actually works on the day is huge. Things like how the light falls during your ceremony, how far guests need to move between spaces, and whether there’s room to step away for ten quiet minutes together all matter more than most couples realise at first.

This list isn’t about the biggest or the most extravagant. It’s about country wedding venues near Melbourne that photograph beautifully, feel considered, and allow the day to unfold naturally.

If you’re planning a relaxed, well-paced country wedding within reach of Melbourne, these are fourteen venues worth seeing in person.

1. Woolbrook Homestead

Woolbrook is a private little sanctuary surrounded by farmland. Couples I’ve photographed here love the lush gardens and the number of quiet corners for portraits or spending time with guests. Marquees on the lawn look incredible with the homestead as a backdrop, and the house itself is perfect for getting ready. Big or intimate weddings both work beautifully here, and Melburnians seem to love the upmarket, private-property feel. For couples looking for elegance and a calm, memorable day, this venue delivers.

2. Stones of the Yarra Valley

I’ve photographed a lot of weddings at Stones, and it never gets old. The chapel is stunning for ceremonies, and the accommodation makes it easy for couples and guests to relax after the celebrations. I’ve seen days run smoothly thanks to the onsite staff who run the timeline to the millisecond, how well you’re looked after is what has really built up their reputation as one of the best venues in the Yarra Valley. There are plenty of versatile spaces with the farmhouse, stables, and grounds. Also, the food is always incredible.

3. Barunah Plains

Barunah Plains is one of the only venues I know that only lets couples book out the venue if they have it for the whole weekend. This means most couples have their recovery day there as well. It has a beautiful pool, tennis court, and creek that runs through the middle, as well as heaps of onsite accomodation.

The homestead has been renovated thoughtfully while keeping its character. Marquees and the old wool shed give options for indoor or outdoor receptions. Couples love the private countryside feel of this place.

Sunnyside Estate feels like a series of spaces that flow naturally through the day. There are structured gardens, open piazza, a helipad with incredible views of the ocean, and tucked-away secret gardens. The Grand Hall is ready for the celebrations, and everything connects so guests move seamlessly without feeling crowded. It’s a venue that wows couples with every corner they walk around.

7. Sault, Daylesford

Sault works for every type of wedding I’ve shot. The property includes a small chapel, lake, green lawns, and even a lavender farm. Daylesford is such a lovely escape for guests to stay for the weekend. The spaces at Sault flow well from ceremony to reception, making it easy to fit everything in stress free. There is a super nice waterfall at the end of the road with some lush walking tracks for portaits called Sailors Falls.

9. Churchill

Churchill is a beautiful country church. Couples I’ve photographed here love its old-world charm and the intimate yet spacious feel of the property. The nearby gardens and bridge are a great spot for photos, and the whole property has a relaxed, traditional vibe. It’s about an hour from the CBD, making it accessible while still feeling like a countryside escape. I love the big group photos in front of the building, and the lawn makes a great spot for cocktails and canapés. I have also seen outdoor dining set ups with festoon lighting that looks incredible! Worth a look if it fits your vibe.
